Paula on the Issues - Rio Nuevo
Rio Nuevo
As a native Tucsonan, Senator Aboud enjoyed Tucson's vital downtown life in her youth and, sadly, watched as one business after another relocated away from downtown to the malls. Without a viable and healthy urban core, Tucson will never become the important city in deserves to be. Every great city has a great Downtown. Tucson and its residents and visitors deserve no less.
HB 2702 is a bill that is critical to the future of Downtown Tucson and the long-term economic future of the community itself. An extension of the existing voter-approved Rio Nuevo district would provide the requisite time and resources to meet the community's call for a strong, renewed downtown that spurs retail and entertainment, cultural venues, commercial enterprises, and housing.
The Arizona Historical Museum is a key component of the Rio Nuevo Plan for downtown Tucson. It will be a major contributor to Arizona tourism goals and economy and at the same be a strong educational resource for people.
Senator Aboud is working hard for the passage of HB2702 in the Senate.
